An Open Window, A Quiet Night, Deep Gladness

The sunroom window stood open last evening.  As I sat near it, the pleasing fragrance of the outdoors invited me to come outside, to experience all that the evening offered, to enjoy a moment of solitude.

I stood on the patio, leaning against a tall beam.  I took it all in:  the quiet, the gentle breeze, the sweet scent, the petunias and daylilies fading into fall, the aged red maple tree that survived a violent storm last June.

Yes, I absorbed it all, and I rested in that wonder-filled moment, connecting to nature, connecting to the earth.  I experienced peace and joy.

When I returned indoors, I found that these few short-term moments brought me long-term gladness.
